The Invisible Princess

The Invisible Princess This original fairy tale by one of America's most talented artists is a remarkable interweaving of myth and history, emotion and grace. Vividly illustrated, it will capture the attention of all who read it and all who, along with the Invisible Princess, yearn for a world ruled by peace and love.

Faith Ringgold was inspired to create The Invisible Princess after many years of reading fairy tales to her three granddaughters, who always asked, "Where are the African America princesses?" As the story took shape, it also became the basis for a story quilt called Born in a Cottonfield, which is part of Ms. Ringgold's American Collection series of quilts that combine painting, quilted fabric, and storytelling. Ms. Ringgold, the author and illustrator of Tar Beach, a Caldecott Honor Book and Coretta Scott King Award winner, has also written and illustrated Aunt Harriet's Underground Railroad in the Sky and My Dreams of Martin Luther King for Crown. An artist of international renown, she is a professor of fine art at the University of California at San Diego, where she teaches for half the year.
